ArticleParts of Austria are in for some cold hours this week. Low temperatures of up to minus ten degrees are expected. Light snowfall is also possible in the north. However, this week will start off a little strange and unpredictable.
On Monday, in the north and east, clouds will still move through at times in the morning and short showers are possible in the mountains. However, sunny spells will become more frequent and longer during the day, especially in the lowlands. Further west and south, the sun will shine more often at first, but there will be some fog in places in the inner Alps and the south. In the afternoon, however, a screen of high and medium-high cloud fields will gradually move in from the southwest. Depending on the wind, early temperatures will range from minus two to plus ten degrees, with daytime highs of eight to 14 degrees.
Along the northern side of the Alps and in the north, clouds will mostly predominate on Tuesday and it will rain or snow here at times, somewhat more frequently in the congested areas. In the east and south, the sun will shine at least occasionally and it will also remain largely dry here. Only a few raindrops are possible in the eastern lowlands and in the southeast. Early temperatures will reach minus two to plus six degrees, with daytime highs of five to eleven degrees.
On Wednesday, the south will enjoy dry and fairly sunny weather. In the rest of Austria, there will initially be a lot of clouds with a few snow and rain showers, especially along the northern side of the Alps and in the north. In the afternoon, however, the clouds will clear and the sun will appear more often. The snow line will fluctuate between low altitudes in the north and east and 800 meters above sea level in the west. Daily lows will be between minus four and four degrees, and daily highs will range from minus one to plus seven degrees.
On Thursday, the sun will be shining quite often for the time being, with only a few patches of fog, especially in the inner Alps. A few isolated cloud patches will start to show later in the morning, mainly in the east and north. Light rain or snowfall is to be expected, especially in the far north, with the snow line rising to 600 to 1000 meters above sea level. The temperature in the morning will be between minus ten and one degree, and in the afternoon, it will be between one and seven degrees.
In the west and south, it will be quite sunny outside the fog patches on Friday, with clouds only arriving towards the evening. In contrast, the far north of Austria experiences thick cloud cover starting in the early hours of the day. For the majority of Austria, the day begins bright and sunny. Clouds will gradually increase there and in the course of the afternoon, rain will set in more frequently in the north-east, with the snow line fluctuating between 1000 and 1300 meters above sea level. In the morning, temperatures will be between minus six and six degrees, depending on the wind, and between four and eleven degrees in the afternoon.
